General contracting by SDM Quzhou Yuanli newly built 1×1280m3 blast furnace successfully taps iron

The Quzhou Yuanli new 1×1280m3 blast furnace and its supporting utility facilities, designed by SDM and contracted by SDM as the EPC general contractor, held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 22, 2024. The demolition of the old blast furnace began on January 15, 2025, the blast furnace was pushed on April 8, the hot blast stove was heated up on June 29, the blast furnace was ignited at 19:58 on August 9, and the blast furnace tapped at 22:08 on the 10th. The project lasted for 354 days, setting a new record for the construction and renovation of blast furnaces in China.

The project officially ceased operations and began demolition on January 15th. By February 11th, the demolition was completed and handed over to the civil engineering team for piling operations. The demolition duration was 28 days (with a one-day suspension during the Spring Festival), which was completed 10 days ahead of the planned schedule. On February 28th, the pile foundation construction was completed. On April 8th, the blast furnace was fully removed. On April 14th, the main control building was topped out. On May 19th, the downcomer was hoisted into place. On May 26th, the laying of carbon bricks for the blast furnace began. On June 10th, the refractory masonry for the hot blast stove was completed. On June 29th, the hot blast stove underwent heating up. On August 9th, the blast furnace was ignited, and on August 10th, the blast furnace began tapping. The project adopted an offline blast furnace assembly and overall removal mode. After the cessation of operations, the duration was 207 days, which granted the owner 147 days of production time, yielding considerable economic benefits and setting a precedent for future major repairs and renovations of blast furnaces.
